Subjective reports and process dissociation: Fluency, knowing, and feeling

چکیده
We review research on the ̄uency heuristic as a basis for the subjective experience of familiarity. Then, we explore the links between the construct of ̄uency and the automatic versus consciously controlled memory processes that are estimated using the process dissociation procedure, and the phenomenological experiences studied using ``Remember'' and ``Know'' judgements. Although the ̄uency that underlies familiarity may map onto the automatic memory process that is estimated by the process dissociation procedure, both ̄uency and automatic memory processes arise in a particular context and their expression depends on the joint constraints created by the cues and the task. Exploring Neural Correlates of Different Dimensions in Drug Craving Self-Reports among Heroin Dependents
Introduction: Drug craving could be described as a motivational state which drives drug dependents towards drug seeking and use. Different types of self-reports such as craving feeling, desire and intention, wanting and need, imagery of use, and negative affect have been attributed to this motivational state. By using subjective self-reports for different correlates of drug craving along ...
متن کاملDo I really feel it? The contributions of subjective fluency and compatibility in low-level effects on aesthetic appreciation
The causes for the liking of objects are multifaceted. According to the processing fluency account, the ease with which an object is processed leads to a subjective feeling of fluency. This subjective feeling is then interpreted as a positive reaction toward the object resulting higher liking. However, evidence regarding the processes underlying this relation is scarce. To show that the subject...
متن کاملDissociating conscious and unconscious learning with objective and subjective measures.
According to functionalist theories, consciousness can be defined by the functions that it serves and by the way it contributes to cognition. For example, when trying to establish dissociations between conscious and unconscious knowledge, conscious representations would be identified by the fact that they allow cognitive control or successful identification or recollection, assessed by verbal r...
متن کاملIt felt fluent, and I liked it: subjective feeling of fluency rather than objective fluency determines liking.
According to the processing-fluency explanation of aesthetics, more fluently processed stimuli are preferred (R. Reber, N. Schwarz, & P. Winkielman, 2004, Processing fluency and aesthetic pleasure: Is beauty in the perceiver's processing experience? Personality and Social Psychology Review, Vol. 8, pp. 364-382.). In this view, the subjective feeling of ease of processing is considered important...
متن کاملWhat is the mechanism for fluency in successive recognition?
There are a number of reasons to believe that processing fluency may affect successive recognition judgements, but evidence about the mechanism for these effects is currently lacking. This study used a successive task design to examine whether subjective ease might underlie effects of fluency on recognition. At study subjects performed lexical decisions; in a subsequent test with studied and ne...
